Introduction
The Turin Palace is a four-star hotel on Via Paolo Sacchi, close to Porta Nuova station. The hotel describes the building as a historic structure, recently remodelled, with a restaurant, a wellness area and a terrace that opens in good weather.
This page follows the hotel the way we photographed it, from the bottom up: the stairwell and the salons, our room, the breakfast room, the wellness area, dinner and, at the end, the roof. For the city around it, our Turin guide covers three days on foot.
01 — Downstairs
Velvet, paintings and a long stairwell
The staircase is the first thing worth stopping for. A wrought-iron balustrade curls down through the building around warm stone steps, and the view down the well from an upper landing shows how tall the old building is.
On the ground floor the lounge is lit by tall windows and a cluster of small glass lights. Teal velvet armchairs and deep brown sofas sit on patterned carpet, with large contemporary paintings on the walls. Up close the details carry the same palette: a teal velvet cushion printed with small gold animals, thrown on a brown sofa.
02 — Our room
Pale blue and quiet
Our room was painted a soft pale blue, with a wide white bed under a padded headboard, a navy velvet runner and a footstool at its end. Heavy curtains framed tall windows, and a round mirror hung above the tray with coffee and tea.
The hotel describes all its rooms as soundproofed, with free soft drinks in the minibar and coffee and tea in the room.
03 — Morning
Breakfast under the gold dome
Breakfast was served beneath a gilded dome, with glass chandeliers, deep blue carpet and turquoise walls, and round tables laid in white.
The buffet ran across several tables, with croissants and pastries on tiered stands, tarts, fruit and pancakes. Espresso came to the table.
The wellness area
The wellness area is lit almost entirely in blue. The hotel lists a whirlpool bath, a Kneipp path, a sauna, a steam bath and emotional showers.
Access is booked at reception and is limited to guests aged 16 and over. Check current days and conditions on the hotel's site.
04 — Dinner
Les Petites Madeleines
One evening we had dinner at Les Petites Madeleines, the hotel's restaurant. The hotel describes its cooking as Piedmontese tradition alongside some original combinations, with close attention to seasonal vegetables.
What we photographed: a composed plate on a raspberry-coloured charger, a small white cup beside it, and red wine poured at the table. The restaurant recommends booking.
05 — The roof
Above the city
The last stop is the terrace, which the hotel opens in good weather. From up here Turin is a field of terracotta roofs and green treetops, with the Mole Antonelliana rising above them, and in the evening the sun goes down behind the city's towers. We had an aperitivo on the rooftop with the Mole in view. After the closed, warm rooms below, it is the most open place in the hotel.
